Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Will my umbrella last outdoors?
    1. The umbrella is made of a very strong material.  Although with rain and sun the cloth will fade and the pattern will tarnish, the fabric will stand up for years. The umbrella guru personally had one on his porch for five years until the cat (or was it a tiger?) jumped on it.

  • Is the umbrella guaranteed against cat’s claws?
    1. No.

  • Will my umbrella withstand wind?
    1. No. By the very structure, all umbrellas tend to be carried off by wind. This is usually where breakage occurs.  We recommend that you close it or bring it inside during heavy winds.

  • What do I use for an umbrella stand?

a.      If you have an outdoor table with a hole in the middle, you can use that. If symmetry is not your thing, the Umbrella Guru recommends getting out your drill. If you neither have nor desire a holy table, it's time to think outside the table. Suggestions from the Guru himself:  (1) The cheapest way would be to fill a large water dispenser bottle with sand to weight it. (2) Outdoor gardening stores usually carry cement umbrella stands. (3) If you want something more decorative, a suitable large vase can be weighted with sand.

  • Are the umbrellas easy to set up?
    1. Very easy. Instructions will be included in the package.

  • Can my dog set it up?
    1. No. Set-up requires a five-fingered grip.

  • Can my trained monkey set it up?
    1. You will have to discuss that with your monkey.

  • What are the umbrellas made of?
    1. The colorful ones are made out of a synthetic cloth which is very strong. The patterning is golden leaf or hand-painted. The muslin ones are made of an upholstery strength muslin. The under-structure is made of bamboo. The poles are made of wood.

  • Are they hand-made?
    1. Yes.

  • Where are the umbrellas made?
    1. In Bali.

  • What were the umbrellas originally made for?
    1. Temples, altars and ceremonies.

  • Who made the umbrellas?
    1. A family who supplies masks, costumes, décor, etc. for temples and ceremonies.

  • What do people usually use these umbrellas for?
    1. Garden shade for people or plants, weddings and events, indoor décor, movie props . . .

  • What if I don’t like my umbrella once I receive it?
Is that possible? Well anything’s possible . . . So, if that is the case: please review our return policy in terms and conditions.
